Welcome to the Glendower Legacy Project!
Between October and December of 2006 a group of devoted youth from Scarborough’s Glendower area dedicated countless hours of time, energy, and creative spirit to crafting a 3-dimentional mural. Project Manager Amy Barnes worked alongside multi-media artist Allycia Uccello, sculptor Bruce Brown, assistant Marietta Mnatsakanian, and over 30 dynamic youth to conceptualize, design and create a spectacular mural. This dedicated group came together every Sunday, working five consecutive hours each day for three months. The youth shaped the direction of the overall piece, carefully selecting its themes, shapes, designs, and colors. Under the capable guidance of the artists, the youth produced a unique work of art that is comprised of over 35 separate and distinct wooden sections. Each section was individually designed, carved, and painted by the participants. The final piece is hanging permanently in Bridlewood Mall.
Many thanks to the Art Starts staff team, the Glendower community, Old Orchard Public School, and Scarborough Cross Roads. Finally, a special thanks to the Glendower Legacy Project’s corporate sponsor Tim Hortons, the local area Tim Hortons Franchisees, and especially franchisee owner Randy Perhar for providing the refreshments and lunches during the project.
